Bob Dylan in a Rather Snazzy Leather Coat

Never considered Bob much of a style icon, but having come across this in this month's British GQ, I must don my chapeau before the great man. It makes me understand why I've always had a weakness for showing a bit of ankle and sock. I must have been influenced by images such as this growing up. Not only is the short hem cool, it is, er, sexy...Generally, not a big fan of leather but that double breasted military style number with the belt firmly tightened is one hot look. Or is it the aviators (or that scruffy beard) that make this work so, so well?!

Like Father Like Son

Cosmo, the son of my favourite vintage clothes stall holder's (one of 2009's style icons himself) following in the footsteps of his paterfamilias, not only in career choice but sartorially as well. Looking at this, one can but hope for future generations. Truly one of the most stylish chaps out there. This look would work perfectly on its own, but the addition of red socks (socks!) elevates this to pure style genius!

BERLIN: The Redhead

I was stopped in my tracks when I spotted this woman of intense glamour having a late afternoon fag in a Berlin corner bar. She had the air of a statuesque Hollywood silent movie star. The pose and pizzazz, the unfussiness of her simple dress, the grace of her legs crossed and her hand holding the cigarette while other shading her eyes against the blazing 40 degree sun. But above all, it was the luscious fiery rich red of her tresses that kept others too to stop and worship her. The scene was a near-Anita Ekberg moment - sans fountain and kitty

Once in awhile one is fortunate enough to get caught up in someone's gail force of a personality as happened when this lass crash-banged into my orbit at my favourite boozer. I'd been admiring her getup for some time when I finally put a feeling of intimidation aside and approached her. Her energy matched the craziness of her outfit which seemed to be something off the back of granny's settee. She was mad as a hatter and that's a good thing!

Where to start?! Obviously, that cape/poncho/thing is the first piece anyone will notice. What incredible design and colours! Can't decide if it's '50-60s inspired or something more tribal - which the necklace and plastic bangles on her wrist seem to point toward...The shoes are also fittingly quirky...but it's the hair that completes this super original look. Princess Leia meets Boney M circa 1977. A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!

Absolutely no doubt in my mind that she will be one of the top contenders for Style Icon of 2010! Formidable! (Fr)

Retro Colour Combo

There is so much that is right about this picture, don't even know where to start. Firstly and obviously, the colours. On their own mustard and turquoise can be tricky but here, together again for the first time since the '50s, they convey a retro Americana iconography towards which we at SNTF headquarters always feel partial

We also approve of the daring display of a bushy red beard. Facial hair these days tend to veer towards the over-groomed/sculpted metrosexual "creations" so any representation that flies in the face of non-conformist thinking we will always applaud... Or is it simply because we know the fellow and he can do no wrong with us or because we have a weakness for red hair in general?!

Regardless, do I hear you scream STYLE ICON?! Oh, yesss!

NOT a Trilby!

Came across this chap on my way to my favourite drinking establishment the other day. Sadly I wasn't prepared for any unforeseen facion encounters, therefore all I had at my disposal was my rather inferior photographic (but otherwise perfectly fabulous) mobile telecommunications device thingy...hence the questionable image quality. Soz

Anyhoo, I was immediatelly taken by this most original cinching technique on his snazzy little old fashioned hat, which I must stress was NOT one of those high street trilby-embarrassments but rather a 1940's gentleman's bonnet. On further investigation, it was revealed to me that it was not any sort of a facion statement, simply a question of practicality - the headgear was simply too big for our chap. Ha! E voila, another style classic is brought into being by sheer accident...Sir, we salute you!

Insanely stylish couple from Iceland. I've seen them on other blogs and witnessed their popularity with snappers this week - everybody seems to be after them and rightly so.

A True Style Icon!

And now, the piece de resistance of the day: everything about this lady I love, love, love!! Just the kind of eccentric I set out to to track down when I hatched the idea for this blog! First of all, her poise: note the way she holds her gloves - with a very old-world kind of classiness... The tiny neckerchief, the short trousers with stripy socks, the little suitcase as handbag - but most of all the buttons on her coat: a mix-bag of styles, shapes, sizes and colours. Most inspiring!! In fact I'm determined to rip off all my matching red buttons from my red lumberjack and replace them with some crazy brocades, chicken bones and door knobs , whatever...;-)

She was reluctant to talk to me and be photographed at first but she gradually thawed. I expected her to be the formidable head of the accessories department at the Royal College of Art, alas, all I could get out of her was that she'd been in design in the past... Hmmm

I'd been dispairing at the lack of "talent" on the market that day when this blur of colours rolls by me. Not recognising them at first, I was relieved to see it was my homeboy Klaus and his lovely lady Julie in their sunday best splendour. And to think I had to travel this far just to see these two from across the street!...

Been a fan of his choice of threads for years. For a straight man to be this bold with colours, I can only admire and congratulate the fellow!

(You might wanna be more careful with your choice of plastic bags in the future, matey! Chartreuse, perhaps?!...Har har)

When I first spotted this girl I was immediately taken by her style and spirit (and her friend's - see in another entry). But when I saw the picture at home I was blown away by her coquettish pose, the confidence and such beauty and sexuality you seldom see in a young woman of her age. And then of course, there are the heels. Hot! Definitely in the running for "Picture of the year". I LOVE THIS!!! A perfect look and spirit!...
