LFW A/W 11 - Erdem Catwalk
Now I'm a big fan of Erdem (and as a member of his extended posse, I am mincing my words here, as he is a most fascinating and charming fellow - the dangers of the media hobnobbing with the talent, eh?!) but I was left somewhat underwhelmed by his Autumn/Winter '11 collection. The fabrics all perfectly luxurious in silk and velvet and the tailoring - as far as I could judge - seamless, but it felt a bit too safe to my liking, in particular the cuts. The colours (apart from a few rich-hued dresses - above), also, would appeal to the well-heeled conservative housewife in muted autumnal blues, greens and burgundy. My granny's favourite colour combinations...But then again, it is all a matter of taste and as a devoted follower of Vivienne Westwood (see later), it is understandable that this collection would be too staid for team Say No To Facion.
His choice of models also got some rubbing in the media and I'm pained to admit to agree with those criticisms. Read my rant on the current crop of London catwalk models in the very near future!

LFW A/W 11 - Men's Shoes of the Week
High top brogues with extra thick soles were everywhere. As an avid brogues wearer not to mention supporter of hightop workmen's boots, the combination of the two styles is a match made in heaven pour moi.
Particularly like the patent leather version for its wrongness, but the brown ones, Grenson's Fred V is also a beute. Check 'em out here:

LWF A/W '11 Sophie Ellis-Baxter @ HH
Not a starfucker but always had a thing for her, particularly her skin and it is indeed something otherworldly. The word porcelain was invented to describe hers. Even lovelier in the flesh...Ooh, I'm swooning...
LWF A/W '11 House of Holland
One of the major surprises of the season for me was Henry Holland's metamorphosis from jokey one trick pony of Choose Life t-shirts to the designer of proper wearable clothes but with a sense of fun still very much intact. After last winter's PR disaster outside his venue and his embarrassing previous collections, my expectations were lower than low, so when multi-coloured crocheted grandma's blankets turned into short dresses appeared on the catwalk my jaw dropped in astonishment. Added to the effect was his stripy socks worn with heels. Very reluctantly, I had to give the guy some credit.

John Rocha's Cotton Trousers
Yes, this has been around for a while but never seen it on a middle aged men who actually carries it off with aplomb. It could be his trademark hair or his status (and a banker might not be able to get away with this) but Rocha's sure pulled this off!

LFW A/W 11 - The Self-augmented Vintage Jacket
This German blogger took it into his own hands to improve on an already impressive checkered vintage jacket by adding the red stitching and the buckle. Accessorising it with the pocket square and red socks completes the quirky look, and we likey!
LONDON FASHION WEEK Autumn/Fall 2011 - The Layered Scarves
London Fashion Week has come and gone. Phew! Standing around for mindless hours for six days takes the toll on any sub-super human snapper but especially taxing on one with a skeptical eye on the proceedings. That said, shows were admirably on time; no House of Holland PR fiasco of a year ago this time around, but the weather made no one's life any easier but sure made most pics look very dull. So, a big thank you to you, fella, up there!
But to brighten up our day, here's an American journo with some well-chosen mix of layers and colours and a matching sunny personality to start us off with.

Orange Shoulder bag

Bayode of Pokit
Bayode is tailor/proprietor of a bespoke tailoring shop in Soho. He specialises in suit-trousers that have a jodhpurs-like cut that tend not to go further down than ankle-height, and jackets that are short and fitted. As modeled by Bayode himself, the suits are contemporary on a slight retro tip; beautifully made-to-measure in the most luxurious tweeds or corduroys in rainbow colours.
And there are the hats. With extravagant heights, they're inspired by anything from Al Capone-era trillbies, high hats, ten gallon cowboy hats and, in this particular case, by the shape of ships. Always worn on the very top of one's head tipped just a touch to one side. Super cool!
